　　暑假即将开始了，可是12岁的男孩桑迪（伊利亚·伍德 Elijah Wood 饰）却并不开心。桑迪成长在一个破碎的家庭之中，母亲忙于工作无法照顾他，于是决定将他送到素未谋面的舅舅波特（保罗·霍根 Paul Hogan 饰）家中够几样。桑迪对波特舅舅并没有什么好印象，他位于海边的房子也令桑迪感到无趣至极。某日，桑迪救下了一只险些被猎杀者杀死的海豚。
